Sisters in The Surf Patrol

Sisters in the Surf Patrol

The Sisters in the Surf initiative by the Boat Harbour Beach Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) was an all female patrol at the start of the 2020/2021 season to celebrate 40 years of women in Surf Life Saving.

The idea was originally for Boat Harbour Beach SLSC to have an all female patrol just as a club or with the North West Region of Tasmania, but after voicing the idea to a few club members it was soon encouraged to be a state wide celebration of 40 years of Women in Surf Life Saving.

The concept came about when social gathering numbers where limited due to Covid-19, so an event bringing everyone together in one location was unrealistic, so celebrating all on the same day, putting into practice the reason we were celebrating seemed to be the best way to acknowledge this milestone.

The Sisters in the Surf Innovation was nominated and went on to win the 2021 Surf Life Saving Tasmania's Awards of Excellence, Innovation of the Year Award.

Our Innovation went on to be nominated on the national stage at the Surf Life Saving Australia's Award of Excellence and it was a great surprise to receive the National Innovation of the Year Award.

We aim to keep the Sisters in the Surf Patrol an ongoing event in the calendar with the hope it expands across the country and we can keep up the innovation until the next milestone, 50 years of Women in Surf Life Saving. The Sisters in the Surf Patrol is normally held at the start of December, the start of the patrolling season, here in Tasmania.
