Accidental Counsellor Training – Opportunity for Club Members
Sometimes we find ourselves supporting someone who's going through a tough time, whether it's a friend, family member, fellow club member or someone in our community.
But knowing what to say or how to help isn't always easy.
Surf Life Saving Tasmania (SLST) is partnering with Lifeline Tasmania to offer two Accidental Counsellor training sessions, and our club members are invited to take part.
The training is designed to give everyday people the confidence and skills to recognise when someone is struggling, listen, offer support and know when to seek professional help.
You'll learn about:
Recognising when someone may need support
Listening and asking the right questions
Responding to someone in distress
Knowing when and how to refer someone for further help
Looking after your own wellbeing too
You don't need any previous experience or training. And you don't need to be a counsellor! These are practical skills that can help at the surf club and in everyday life.
