We're in! Here's what's happening at BHBSLSC!
We've moved into our amazing new clubrooms at Boat Harbour Beach, and we're getting ready for a busy summer! It's an exciting time for our Club, and it's been wonderful to see so much interest from people wanting to join, volunteer, use the facilities and get involved.
We're also getting lots of questions about how everything will work. So, here's an update on what's happening, how you can get involved and what's still being worked out.
Nippers is starting – come and try!
Sunday 8 November 2026 | 10am
Our Nippers (ages 4–14) season kicks off with a Come and Try Day for new and returning families. We'll start with a quick introduction upstairs in the clubrooms before heading to the beach for some fun! Come along, meet everyone and see what Nippers is all about. Nippers will run every Sunday throughout summer, with a short break over Christmas.
Want to get involved? Become a member!
We've had lots of people asking how they can help, volunteer or participate in activities at the Club. The first step is to become a member. You don't need to be a lifesaver or have any special skills. There are lots of ways to contribute and we're keen to hear from people who would like to get involved.
Once you've signed up and your membership has been approved, you can join our private Boat Harbour Beach SLSC Members Facebook group, and you will start getting member emails. That's where we'll share opportunities to volunteer, upcoming activities, meetings and information as we work through the next stages of getting the Club up and running. We'll also continue sharing information on our website.
Want to become a lifesaver?
One of the great things about joining a Surf Life Saving Club is the opportunity to learn new skills and help keep our beach safe. Members interested in joining our volunteer beach patrols can undertake training in any or all of the following areas: SLS Radio Operator, Bronze Medallion, Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC), and First Aid Certificate.
Existing members interested in gaining their Bronze Medallion or SRC may have an opportunity to undertake training this November. First Aid is a combination of online and face to face training while the Radio Operator is a short online course combined with on the job training.
Our Chief Training Officer, Willow Cummins, is also completing further training this year so she can deliver these courses at the Club early in 2027.
New members interested in these qualifications will be able to participate in the courses planned for next year. Expressions of interest can be sent to Willow (we will add Willow's email address here shortly). We'll share more information as training arrangements are confirmed.
But you don't have to patrol to be a member! There are plenty of other ways to be involved and help the Club.
Who's running the Club?
Our new Operations Team is now settling into its roles and learning what's involved in managing our Club and new facilities. These are all volunteers who are giving their time to help make the Club work for our members and community. If you'd like to know who's who and what they do, visit our website.
What about the gym?
We know lots of people are keen to use our new gym! We're going to start with Club members while we work out how gym-only memberships will operate. Thanks for your patience. We'll keep you posted!
Building access and key fobs
Our new building has an electronic access system, and we're working through the arrangements for issuing key fobs to members. The clubrooms aren't open for general public access. Visitors need to be accompanied by an authorised member. We'll provide members with more information about building access and key fobs as arrangements are finalised.
Can I hire the clubrooms?
We're looking forward to welcoming community groups and others into the facility.
However, building hire isn't available just yet. We're still working through booking arrangements, procedures and how different spaces can be used. As outlined in our earlier update, community use will be introduced gradually as the Club settles into managing the facility. We'll let everyone know when bookings become available and how to make an enquiry.
Thanks for being part of it!
There's a lot happening behind the scenes, and we're fortunate to have a great group of volunteers putting in the time to get everything organised. We're still finding our feet, and some things will take a little longer than others. We appreciate everyone's enthusiasm, offers of help and patience as we work it all out.
If you'd like to help shape this next chapter of the Boat Harbour Beach Surf Life Saving Club, we'd love you to join us.
